Socks as a Fashion Statement

Have you ever wanted to have color, but felt the need to keep it toned down due to your workplace restrictions?  Do you feel that you are not bold enough to leave the house in a neon colored shirt, but still want to express yourself with the clothes that you have on?  Expression through socks may be the answer.  Yes, I said socks.  No longer are socks seen as just a means to warming your feet, or protecting your foot from your shoe.  Socks have become much more.  A way to bring a pop of color in a way that doesn't infringe. The companies that are putting out socks are numerous, but some of my favorites are featured below.  Companies like Stance, Happy Socks, Society Socks, Thomas Pink are some of my favorites.  Whether it is based on a new interpretation of a classic pattern (neon argyle anyone) or a fun reference to days past (80's inspired patterns and colors).  I have personally found that socks provide a way to tie an outfit together, sometimes just adding a little bit of that "je ne sais quoi".  Don't just take my word for it, socks have been featured in GQ, Esquire, and even ABC news.  Below I am featuring some socks that I am crazy about right now, but above all, use sock to have fun, use them to make a bold statement, sock may just be the ultimate accessory.

Stance

Stance socks are extraordinarily comfortable.  They come in athletic and casual.  They also have a wide range of uses from snow socks to everyday, Stance has you covered.  As Jay-Z said, "This aint grey sweat suits and white tube socks, its leather pants and a pair of stance".  These socks take it beyond.  Stance can be found at: Http://www.stance.com

Happy Socks

Happy Socks are aptly named, they just make you happy, be it because of the wide variety of colors and patterns, or just that these are very comfortable socks.  Due to the colors and patterns, many of these socks are unisex.  I happen to love the bold use of colors, and their ability to take a standard pattern and turn it on its head.  These are socks that definitely make a statement.  Happy socks are found at http://www.happysocks.com

Society Socks

Society Socks, not only bring fun to your feet, but they also give back.  Society Socks, based in Toronto, gives directly back, for every pair purchased, as pair is donated to Covenant House, an organization helping the homeless youth in the city.  Not only does the wearer get to step out in style, they truly are also making social impact.  It is this philanthropic bent that make me proud owner of several pair of society socks.  What you get when you buy the socks are a comfortable and stylish, but what you give is even better.  Society Socks can be found at: http://www.mysocietysocks.com

Thomas Pink

Thomas Pink, the British clothier, is a purveyor of men's style, but an often overlooked aspect is their socks.  While on the more expensive side, they are worth every penny.  Thomas Pink socks are high quality, and very comfortable.  Their designs range from standard stripes and dots, to funky blue and pink checkered and neon color blocks.  I love the standard vertical stripes in the unexpected colors, like denim and yellow, or black and neon pink.  these socks allow the wearer to maintain a conservative style with a funky attitude.  Thomas Pink can be purchased in store or online at http://www.us.thomaspink.com
